The leader in industrial automation and control solutions

As of April 2026, the requirements for passwords on Maple Systems cMT Series HMIs with new OS versions have been enhanced to align with the EN 18031-1 security standard. As a result, users will now be prompted to change their password to something other than the default when they attempt to install projects via USB, or configure system settings such as IP addressing.

In addition, new user passwords must conform to the following requirements:

  • Passwords will need to be a minimum of 8 characters long
  • Passwords must include a mix of letters and numbers

Once the new user password has been set, we recommend saving it somewhere secure for future reference. Maple Systems support will not be able to recover this password if it is lost.

In the event that a user password has been misplaced and the user cannot access the features they need, the unit can be reset back to factory default settings. This will reset the password for the unit back to “111111”, and the user will be prompted again to make a new password when accessing system features or installing a project via USB.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Resetting the unit to default settings will remove all user data from the device, including the EBPro project. Please ensure that any critical project data is backed up before proceeding with the following steps.

To reset a unit back to default settings without the current password, please follow these steps:

  1. On the HMI itself, access the system settings menu. By default there should be a small round button in the top left corner of the screen that can be pressed to access this menu.
  2. In the settings menu, select the “System Properties” tab on the left.
  3. Scroll down in the right-hand pane and press the “Reset HMI to Default” button near the bottom of the menu.
  4. The system will prompt the user for a password at this point. Enter “default111111” in the password field, then press OK in the top right corner of the pop up window.
  5. The system will warn the user that proceeding will reset the unit back to default settings, including removing any project files that exist on the unit. Press Reset to proceed.

The cMT Series HMI will now reset, which may take a minute or so to complete. After the system reboots, the default system password will be restored, and the user will be prompted again to create their own unique password.

If the steps outlined in this document do not work when trying to reset the user password, please contact Maple Systems support to troubleshoot further.
