Yes, but Network Access Server functionality is not built directly into Maple Systems industrial Ethernet switches.
A Network Access Server (NAS) is a gateway device or software feature that controls user or device access to a network. It can authenticate users, apply access policies, and record network activity. A NAS typically works with an external authentication service, such as a RADIUS server.
Maple systems managed switches can support a network access server as part of a larger network architecture. However, the switches do not operate as standalone network access servers. The required authentication and auditing services run on external network infrastructure.
Support depends on the switch model:
- Lite-managed switches support port-based 802.1X authentication through an external RADIUS server.
- Fully managed switches support port-based 802.1X authentication through RADIUS. It also supports TACACS+.
- Unmanaged switches do not provide configurable network authentication features.
In this configuration, the switch controls access at the Ethernet port. The external server verifies the user or connected device. It can then approve or reject network access based on the configured credentials and policies. Therefore, Maple Systems managed switches can participate in a NAS-based access-control system. However, an external RADIUS or TACACS+ server must provide the authentication and auditing functions.
