Gateway devices can perform a variety of tasks. Most often they connect two networks or devices with different communication protocols or data formats so that devices can use it. Gateways can add communication protocols and/or Wi-Fi capabilities to existing systems and are often used to transmit data from existing controllers to the SCADA, ERP, or cloud systems.
