Summary
A ping is a reply by a machine on a network when a request is sent to the machine’s IP address. Suppose you have multiple machines and you want to know if there is a machine on the network with a given IP. That’s when you use ping. This packet is classified as ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol). Many network administrators routinely use pinging, and Windows 7 machines by default do not respond to pinging.
Solution
Here is how to enable a ping response in Windows 7:
Open Control Panel –> System and security –> Windows Firewall –> Advanced settings –> Inbound rules –> New rule –> Custom rule
In Protocol and ports select: Protocol: ICMPv4
On the same panel, select “Customize,” choose “Specific ICMP types”, and check the box “Echo Request.”
Click “OK” … Next … Next … Next … Next.
When you get to “Finish,” enter a name for the new rule such as Ping_Enable.
You should be able to ping the Panel PC from this point on.
