What is grade 316 stainless steel?
316 stainless steel is an austenitic alloy similar to 304, with added molybdenum to improve resistance to chlorides, industrial solvents, and aggressive cleaning agents. This enhanced corrosion resistance makes it well suited for harsh chemical environments and marine-adjacent installations where pitting and surface degradation are common.
With chromium and nickel for strength and durability, plus 2-3% molybdenum for chemical resistance, 316 stainless steel performs reliably under repeated washdown and sanitation. Variants such as 316L improve weldability, while 316Ti supports elevated-temperature applications. In industrial panel PC enclosures, 316 stainless steel preserves surface integrity, supports hygiene compliance, and delivers long-term reliability in corrosion-prone environments.
