What is a node?
In computer networking, a node is any physical or virtual device that is part of a network. This includes hosts like HMIs and PLCs, as well as devices that help manage network traffic, such as routers, switches, and access points. Every node has a unique identifier like a MAC or IP address and plays a role in transmitting or processing data. While all hosts are nodes, not all nodes are hosts. Some nodes just help move data without directly sending or receiving it themselves.
