We created this short video showing how easy it is to upgrade your project using EBPro. In this video, we chose to upgrade our HMI5070Pv2 to a cMT3072XHT as an example.

You will need to update your project from EZware-5000 up to EBPRO before you can follow along with the video. You can also follow along with Tech Note 5117 for upgrade tips.

NOTE: If you need the current 10.1″ offering to fit in the existing 10.4″ HMI5104TH panel cutout, you’ll need to use the 1420-5002 adaptor plate.

There are some differences in how your project will be programmed compared to the previous HMI project.

  • If your new HMI comes with a higher resolution than the legacy HMI, the aspect ratio will be different. EBPro will scale your images accordingly, however, if they do not look high quality you will need to reimport them into your project.
  • Layered objects are not supported, the same functions can be achieved using Combo Buttons in EBPro.
  • General mode security is disabled but data is retained and will be active in Enhanced Security settings. It is recommended that you switch to Enhanced security for remote access purposes.
  • System keypads are built-in.
  • Some objects have new, or different, settings.

Converting your Legacy Product to a Newer HMI document was created to step you through the above mentioned differences.

How do I upgrade from EZware-5000 to EBPro?

Maple Systems offers several innovative HMIs that provide an upgrade path for existing applications. For simple applications, the transition process is fairly smooth. For more complicated applications, the process may require additional efforts and considerations.

For optimum success, use the most current version of programming software.

Follow Tech Note 5092, “Converting from EZware-5000 to EBPro” for step-by-step instructions.

How do I upgrade from EZwarePlus to EBPro?

Using the Compress utility in EZwarePlus, compress the EZwarePlus project. This utility is found in Tools -> Compress/Uncompress. This will create a new file with the same name as the project, but with the file extension .ECMP. This is required to be sure that all the dependencies, such as library files, are transferred to EBPro.

Next, download and install EBPro, located as a free download in the Software & Download section of the Support Center.

Finally, open EBPro and open the Compress/Uncompress utility, located in File -> Compress/Uncompress. Select the compressed file, file extension .ECMP. Set a destination to uncompress to; and click the Uncompressing button.

I have an old HMI5104TH. What should I upgrade to?

Maple Systems offers several HMIs that provide an upgrade path for your HMI5104TH. For almost all conversions, the transition requires little effort. When considering which particular HMI to replace your HMI5104TH, please note that not all replacement models are identical. Any of our 10.1″ HMI’s are a replacement option. You’ll also need our 1420-5002 Adaptor Plate to help the new HMI fit in the existing panel cutout. The HMI5104TH was a 10.4″ screen. Visit our website for more information on the differences between upgrade options.

You will also need to upgrade the software and convert your project. There are some incompatibilities between software that may affect you depending on your project. As with any transition, it is best to review each screen and the general operation of the new HMI to ensure that it is performing as expected in your application.

Are EBPro projects backwards compatible with older versions of EBPro and EZwarePlus?

EBPro projects are not backwards compatible with EZwarePlus or older versions of EBPro.

Newer versions of EBPro will save a copy of the project created in an older version when it is modified. This older copy will have the version number of the older software appended to it and will be saved to the same directory.

How do Basic Security settings work on my HMI if cMT only supports Enhanced Security?

Basic Security settings you have saved in your project will be retained during the conversion. However, we recommend using Enhanced Security on cMT devices if cMT Viewer is being used. It’s recommended each user have their own login, passwords, and permissions for remote access control.

What if the Screen Resolution on my new HMI is different than my old HMI?

No worries. EBPro will fix it for you. If the screen resolution on the selected cMT series HMI is different than the original older HMI, a “Resize Pop-up Windows/Objects” dialog box will pop up. It is recommended that all the check boxes are selected and then click OK and you should be good to go.

I converted my project from a legacy product and the fonts in my project look funny now?

Anytime you convert a project from a legacy software to a newer version there is a risk that your fonts may no longer be supported in the new software.

When an EasyBuilder-500 project is converted to EasyBuilder-5000 using the Translate tool, the HMI500 fonts can be used to maintain the look of the original project.

See Technical Note 5075, “Fonts and Libraries – Managing in EZware-5000” for more details.

I’m using Stacked Objects, I click on the top object and only the top one activates, it’s supposed to activate them all?

You’ll need to use a Combo Button to recreate the functionality of the Stacked Object. Under the Tools menu in EBPro, there is a tool to “Find Overlapping Objects”. Right next to it is an option to “Convert to Combo Button”. This can be used to automatically convert stacked objects to a single Combo Button.

What if I have multiple older HMIs still in operation out in the field?

You will have to maintain separate projects. Once your project is converted from HMI series to cMT series, it cannot go back to HMI. If project updates are needed, make sure to update the HMI project first, save it, then convert that to cMT, and save that separately.
