Summary

When a Panel PC unit is panel mounted, the power switch becomes unavailable. There is an option to have the unit powered up when the power is applied. The following solution requires a keyboard be attached to the unit.

Solution

To have the unit turn on when power is applied:

  1. Power on the Panel PC unit.
  2. Enter the BIOS by pressing the Delete key before the unit boots the operating system.
  3. Press the right arrow key for the Chipset menu.
  4. Select the PCH-IO Configuration menu and press the Enter key.
  5. Select the Restore AC Power Loss menu option and press the Enter key.
  6. Select Power On with the arrow keys and press the Enter key.
  7. Press the F4 key to save and exit.

NOTE: Make sure to SAVE any changes before exiting the BIOS.  Choosing the F4 key will bring up the save option.

To prevent display of recovery screen:

After completing the procedure above the Panel PC should boot up when power is applied, however, Windows 7 will display an error recovery screen if Windows was not shut down properly. This screen can be disabled with the following procedure:

1. Boot into the Windows OS.

2. From the Windows start menu go to All Programs > Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. If a User Account Control message is displayed click yes to allow the program to make changes to the computer.

3. The Command Prompt will be displayed. Type the following command and press Enter:

bcdedit /set {current} bootstatuspolicy ignoreallfailures

4. Exit the Command Prompt and then shut down windows from the start menu (do not remove power before shutting down completely or the change will not be applied). After rebooting, power can be disconnected while the OS is running and the error recovery screen will not be displayed when power is re-applied.
