Summary

It may become necessary to reset an HMI to factory default. The following instructions will assist you with performing this action.

Solution

This tech note is split into three sections.

  • Section One describes the procedure for HMI units with DIP switches.
  • Section Two describes the procedure for HMI units without DIP switches.
  • Section Three describes the procedure for cMT Series Units.

Section 1: HMI Units with DIP Switches

1.

On the back of the HMI, beneath a rubber cover, there are four DIP switches. Using a small screwdriver, flip DIP switch number 1 into the UP position.

2.

Cycle power on the HMI (or push the Reset button next to the DIP switches) and the HMI will reboot into calibration mode.

3.

Follow the instructions on the screen, touching the crosshairs in each of the four corners and the center of the screen (touch each crosshair for about 1 second).

4.

The “Restore to default password” dialog will appear.

5.

Select “Yes” and then type “yes” to confirm. This will erase the program in the HMI and reset the System Settings password to the default “111111.”

6.

The HMI will stay on the “i Series” screen and you should be able to access the arrow in the bottom-right corner and get into the System Settings window by touching the “gear” icon (the password is 111111).

7.

You must now reset the upload and download passwords. Go to the Security tab and reset the Upload, Download, and Upload (History) passwords to the default (111111) or use your preferred password if you have one.

8.

If the HMI has an Ethernet port, reset the IP address of the HMI on the Network tab in the System Settings window.

9.

Flip DIP switch 1 back down. You should now be able to download your project into the HMI. Make sure the Firmware and Fonts checkboxes are checked when you first download.

NOTE: If using Project Manager to download the project, make sure the Firmware box is checked and that the font files are available in the EBPro > Font folder.

10.

The HMI will reboot and run the project.

11.

Don’t forget to flip DIP switch number 1 back DOWN when finished.

Section 2: HMI Units Without DIP Switches

NOTE: The HMI must have firmware version 20151130 or later.

1.

To enable the factory reset, go into the System Settings on the HMI and select “Enable [Reset HMI to default] button in calibration mode” checkbox.

2.

Once this option is selected, cycle power on the HMI and press and hold on the touchscreen while the HMI is powering up to enter calibration mode.

3.

Follow the instructions for calibrating the touchscreen, then select “Reset HMI to Default.” This will erase the program in the HMI and reset the System Settings password to the default “111111.”

4.

The HMI will reboot and stay on the “i Series” screen.

5.

You should now be able to download your project into the HMI. Make sure the Firmware and Fonts checkboxes are checked when you first download.

NOTE: If using Utility Manager to download the project, make sure the Firmware box is checked and that the font files are available in the EBPro> Font folder.

6.

The HMI will reboot and run the project.

Section 3: cMT Series Units

1.

To perform a factory reset on your cMT series HMI, start by tapping the orange circle in the top left corner (by default).

2.

Tap the lock icon and enter the password, by default this is 111111.

3.

Scroll to the very bottom of the menu selection list until you find the “Reset Options” menu, open this up.

4.

Select the option for “Reset HMI to default”. You will be prompted to type the word “Yes” into the text box, confirming that everything on the HMI will be removed and will be restored to factory default.

5.

After tapping “Ok” your HMI project will stop, and the unit will be erased and returned to default settings. If you are connecting to it via ethernet, you will need to go back into the settings and set the IP address to the desired address.

6.

Once the factory reset is complete and the system setting menu is closed, you will find your project has been erased and you are left with the default “cMT Series” screen.
