Is Maple Systems software free?

Yes! Maple Systems programming software is completely free of charge. This includes EBPro, MAPware-7000, and MapleLogic—our flagship software tools for HMI, HMI + PLC combo, or PLC programming and configuration. There are no licensing fees, subscriptions, or activation codes required to download, install, or use these programs. Creating a free account on the Maple Systems website is all that is required.

Whether you’re developing your first HMI project or configuring a complex control system, you can access the full functionality of our software without any cost.

Maple Systems is committed to providing cost-effective solutions for our customers, and offering free software is a core part of that mission. Updates are also free, and support resources—including user manuals, video tutorials, and US-based technical support—are available at no additional cost. This makes it easy for engineers, integrators, and OEMs to start building and maintaining projects right away, without worrying about hidden expenses or recurring fees.

Why would I use a headless HMI unit instead of a touchscreen HMI?Most HMIs have a built-in touchscreen to provide feedback and allow input from on-site personnel. If that is all that’s required, a standard HMI may be sufficient. On the other hand, if you have limited panel space, no need for a touch screen, and want the convenience of monitoring and accessing your system without having to walk to where the HMI is physically located, one of our headless HMIs would be a great option. Utilize your Apple or Android smart phone or tablet to access unit remotely.
How to enable VNC in a cMT-FHDX

Since the Settings window for the cMT-FHDX does not have an option to enable the VNC server, you can do it with a System Bit in the HMI. LB-12092 is used to enable/disable the VNC server. LB-12093 is used to select single-connection or multi-connection (OFF=single; ON=multi). You could place a Toggle Switch on a window to manually enable/disable VNC, or use a Set Bit object on the Common Window (Window 4) to enable it when the HMI starts up.

Note:

LB-12092 must be turned OFF before LB-12093 can be toggled ON or OFF.

You can set the VNC password in the System Parameters > Remote tab.

You can also use LW-9530 through LW-9533 to display or change the VNC login password. Use an ASCII Object assigned to LW-9530, configured for four words.

What is a Status Display Station?Maple Systems HDMI capable products can turn any HDMI®-compatible TV or industrial monitor into a Status Display Station via HDMI® cable – efficiently delivering crisp, high-definition graphics. The HDMI® interface is also easily converted to DVI/VGA/Display Port with an adapter (not supplied). Because the display is user-selectable, you can choose the features you need in your display independent of the features you need in your HMI. Choose a daylight readable display with an extended temperature range for outdoor applications. Choose a large display for indoor applications that need to be easily viewable from far away. Or choose to have no display at all for applications where you only need data logging or mobile access to the HMI through VNC. You can even connect it to a projector for the largest display needs.
What does HDMI stand for?

High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a proprietary audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed video data and compressed or uncompressed digital audio data from an HDMI compliant source device, such as a display controller, to a compatible computer monitor, video projector, digital television, or audio device.

Can I use a headless HMI without a display?

Yes, our headless (without an integrated display) units are fully functional HMIs. Utilizing EBPro software, you can configure the headless device to communicate with your PLC/controller the same way you would program any Maple Systems HMI. If a display is required, a Windows® PC, Apple or Android smart device, or one of our cMT iV Series Displays or Web HMI’s can be used. The CMT-FHDX devices can be paired with any HDMI supported Monitor or large screen TV, as well as your Windows PC.

What is cMT-Viewer Application?

cMT Viewer is a client application that enables users to view and control Maple Systems cMT devices, quickly and easily. cMT Viewer runs the HMI project on the client device. Only application data is exchanged between the cMT hardware, acting as a server, and the client device – your smart phone or tablet. Monitor and control up to 50 cMT HMIs with one device!

Note: cMT Viewer is only compatible with our cMT Series.

How do I turn on Monitor Mode in cMT-Viewer?

To turn on Monitor Mode in cMT-Viewer:

1.    Click on the “gear” icon in the upper-right corner to open the Settings window.

2.       Click on the “More settings” lock icon and enter the password (default: 111111).

3.      Click on the General tab and turn on “Monitor mode.”

4.      Close the settings window.

5.      If you are currently logged in to an HMI, use the orange Start button in the upper-left corner of cMT-Viewer to minimize the view. You will see a small view of each HMI on the screen. If Monitor Mode has been enabled in the project on the HMI (System Parameters > General tab), Window 3 will appear in the Monitor view, otherwise it will show the startup window. (Note: If an HMI shows “Connecting” and doesn’t show Window 3, try connecting to it in EasyAccess 2.0 by clicking on the double-arrow icon.)

6.      Click on any HMI to view it in cMT-Viewer.

I have specific size requirements. Do you have an HMI that will work for me?

Maple Systems HMIs come in a wide range of sizes that are suitable for common enclosures and cutouts. Our HMIs with built-in touchscreens are available with display sizes of 4.3”, 7”, 9.7”, 10”, 12”, 15”, or 15.6”, & 21.5″, allowing them to fit into most spaces.

Our headless HMI models remove the built-in screen, transforming them into extremely compact units and allowing them to fit into very tight quarters. Headless HMIs can then be accessed remotely through another device, or connected to an external monitor of your choice, including big screen TVs, allowing for maximum flexibility.

The availability of these options means that you can find a Maple Systems HMI that fits perfectly in almost any location

Does Maple Systems offer technical support?

Yes. Maple Systems provides 100% free, US-based technical support for all customers. Our Support Center includes extensive documentation, tutorials, and resources. However, if you’re unable to find what you need, our technical support team is ready to assist. You can reach our technicians by phone at (425) 745-3229 or by email at [email protected].

Can Maple Systems HMIs store and use recipe data?

Yes. You can use the recipe database in EBPro to store, edit, and execute recipes for repetitive processes. Maple HMIs reserve retentive memory specifically for recipe data, ensuring that it stays in memory after power-cycling the unit.

Can this HMI communicate with my PLC?

Maple Systems cMT HMIs support over +400 PLC and controller communication protocols, allowing our HMIs to communicate with most common devices. Our cMT HMIs also support protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP or Modbus RTU, opening them up for use with a wide range of devices.

If you want to see the protocols that EBPro supports, visit our Controller Information Sheets page for more information. You can also download the EBPro software from our website for free, which includes simulation features. You can use these to test connections to your other devices before buying any hardware from Maple Systems.

Maple Systems cMT HMIs support 400+ Communication Protocols
Can I access my HMI from a remote network location?

Yes. Our HMIs support remote access features via the EasyAccess 2.0 application. EasyAccess provides a simple built-in solution for creating a secure VPN connection to a remote network, which will allow you to monitor and control your HMI from anywhere in the world.

Once the VPN tunnel has been established, the HMI can be accessed using the cMT Viewer application included with EBPro, or through VNC client software.

Using the EasyAccess 2.0 application does require a one-time license activation fee, which allows for 3 GB of monthly high-speed data at no additional cost. Our HMIs can also be purchased with a pre-activated license for EasyAccess 2.0 already installed.

How do I implement EasyAccess 2.0 on my Maple Systems HMI?Implementing EasyAccess 2.0 is easy. For complete instructions, refer to the EasyAccess 2.0 Manual available in our Support Center. Step 1: Create Domain Account:

An HMI must belong to a domain in order to use EasyAccess 2.0. Anyone can create a new domain for free, all you need is a valid e-mail address. The Domain Management System is the basic system used to organize and handle HMI’s under a particular domain.

An Administrator then runs the domain and adds users and HMIs to the domain. To create a new domain go to the EasyAccess 2.0 Domain Management System (DMS) website (https://account.ihmi.net). Step 2: Manage Your Domain:

When you create a domain account, you become the domain’s administrator. It’s the administrator’s responsibility to create new user accounts and to assign HMIs to specific users and HMI groups. Your domain can contain multiple HMIs, groups, and users.

Step 3: Activation:

In order to use EasyAccess 2.0, you must activate the HMI in the domain. Some HMIs have EasyAccess 2.0 pre-installed and some require purchasing an activation card.

For HMIs requiring an activation card: The HMI can be activated by purchasing an activation card from Maple Systems. The activation code (from the activation card) and the hardware key are required to activate EasyAccess 2.0 in these units. The HMI’s hardware key is located in the HMI’s system settings window. Select the EasyAccess 2.0 tab and locate the 30 digit hardware key. You may also find it on Window 76 – EasyAccess 2.0 Setting. Select “Add HMI” in the domain and enter the hardware key and activation code. When an HMI is activated by an activation code, it is automatically added to the domain under which it was activated. Open window 76 – “EasyAccess 2.0 Setting” on the HMI. With the HMI connected to the Internet, push the Start button to initiate the connection to the EasyAccess 2.0 server. For HMIs with EasyAccess 2.0 pre-installed: The HMI can be activated by obtaining a Session ID and Password from the domain. Open window 76 – “EasyAccess 2.0 Setting.” With the HMI connected to the Internet, push the Start button to initiate the connection to the EasyAccess 2.0 server. If the HMI has not been assigned to a domain yet, a Session ID and Password will be assigned to the HMI and appear on window 76. Select “Add HMI” in the domain and enter the Session ID and Password. It should now be added to the domain. Step 4: Download and Launch EasyAccess 2.0:

Download the EasyAccess 2.0 app on your PC/ iPad/ iPhone/ Android Tablet, Launch EasyAccess 2.0, enter the User ID and password. Once logged in, the program will list all HMIs assigned to this ID including all HMIs under an HMI group. Select an HMI and establish a remote connection. You can now monitor any HMI in your HMI list.

How can EasyAccess 2.0 help my business save money and reduce downtime?Maple Systems and EasyAccess 2.0 can help your business by:

Saving Money: EasyAccess 2.0 reduces travel costs including gas, airfare, and overnight hotel accommodations. It reduces the cost of man-hours paid to send personnel onsite for troubleshooting and repair, as well as reduces the number of pricey technical support phone calls. But most of all, EasyAccess 2.0 will reduce the (very) expensive cost of downtime at the plant.

Facilitating Troubleshooting: With EasyAccess 2.0, you can easily monitor and troubleshoot HMIs/PLCs from a remote location as long as an Internet connection exists. EasyAccess 2.0 manages all network settings and security issues so the user simply connects to the HMI as if they were on the local network. Instantaneously view screens or implement updates to an HMI project or PLC. Change what is seen on screen LIVE by the operator or update the project without disrupting what the operator is doing.

Reducing Down Time: Time is money. With EasyAccess 2.0 you can bring the plant up faster, minimizing expensive downtime. Consider a machine builder who sells machines with Maple HMIs installed. If a customer reports an issue, the machine builder remotely connects to the HMI using EasyAccess 2.0 and investigates the problem. He can quickly review and update the HMI project, monitor the PLC using Pass-Through mode, and even update the PLC program. With EasyAccess 2.0, you’ll enjoy the ability to resolve your problem almost as quickly as it occurs.

I recently did a project using the cMT-FXDX-820. I was able to connect this unit to an existing HMI 5070P v2 and share that units connection to an Allen Bradley SLC5/04 via it’s DF1 port to monitor data on the PLC. Using modbus TCP/IP we connected the new headless HMI to the original HMI.
Initially I had trouble setting up the connection, but the tech support at Maple systems worked with me to solve the issue and it is working perfectly. Thank you.
