Summary

This document describes how to utilize the program Rufus to create a bootable recovery drive for Windows OS Products.

Equipment/Materials Required

  • Windows Computer
  • 16GB USB Flash Drive

Solution

1.

Download and install the Rufus utility here.

2.

Verify you have downloaded a Windows ISO provided by Maple Systems. 

a.

If unsure which Windows ISO image to download; look at the Windows License sticker that came on the Maple Systems computer. The license will indicate which ISO to download. Example: If the license states “Windows 10 IOT ENT 2019”, then the ISO for Windows 10 Enterprise 2019 would be the correct choice to download from the support center.

3.

Insert a 16GB USB Drive into an open port on the computer.

4.

Open Rufus from the default download location. The computer may ask if the program can make changes to the computer. Click Yes.

At the Rufus interface window, ensure that the 16GB USB Flash Drive is selected under the Device row. Click SELECT and a new explorer window will open.

Navigate to the folder that contains the Windows ISO that was downloaded from the Maple Systems website and click Open.

7.

Rufus will populate with the optimal options for the selected Windows ISO. Verify that the settings match those listed below:

Image Option: Standard Windows Installation

b.

Partition Scheme: GPT

c.

Target System: UEFI (non-CSM)

Once the settings have been verified, click Start.

9.

Windows User Experience will then display additional options (except in Windows 7). Check the box labeled Disable data collection and click OK.

Optional: The Create a local account with username option will allow the user to create a local account for the machine if desired.

10.

Rufus will then display a warning that states “ALL DATA ON DEVICE [Drive Name] WILL BE DESTROYED”. Click OK to start the process of creating the bootable USB drive.

11.

Upon completion of the bootable USB drive, the status bar at the bottom of the Rufus interface will turn green and display READY. The bootable recovery drive is now complete and ready for use.
