Unboxing PC8100AP Series
We'll cover the hardware features, unboxing, review of the I/O ports, power it up and test the capacitive touchscreen
Capacitive/Glove Friendly
Our Rugged, Industrial Panel PCs with Capacitive Touchscreens are Glove Friendly, watch as we demonstrate with our OMI6900 Series Panel PC.
What is the best use for an industrial waterproof panel PC?
Industrial waterproof touchscreen PCs excel in environments where reliability and hygiene are essential. They are key components in various sectors, including food and beverage processing, pharmaceutical cleanrooms, chemical plants, agriculture, marine applications, and even military settings, where frequent washdowns, potent cleaning agents, and rugged durability are required.
For example, the PC8100AP Series of waterproof computers is specifically designed for these demanding conditions, offering seamless performance and unmatched protection in the most challenging industrial environments.
What is Grade 304 stainless steel?
Grade 304 stainless steel, often referred to as 18-8 stainless steel, is one of the most widely used stainless steel alloys, including for our industrial Stainless Steel PC product line. It’s valued for its excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and ease of cleaning, which makes it ideal for harsh or hygiene-critical environments.
Unlike similar alloys (such as 302 stainless steel), 304 includes a balanced mix of chromium and nickel that offers high durability without sacrificing formability. This combination allows the material to withstand moisture, chemicals, and frequent washdowns.
Grade 304 stainless steel is commonly used because:
- Resistant to rust, corrosion, and most cleaning chemicals
- Strong and durable for everyday industrial use
- Smooth, non-porous surface that supports sanitary conditions
- Easy to clean and maintain
- Suitable for environments where standard carbon steel would degrade
Common applications of 304 stainless steel include:
- Food processing equipment
- Commercial kitchens
- Chemical and pharmaceutical plants
- Piping and fluid-handling systems
- Fasteners and structural components
- Appliances such as refrigerators and dishwashers
What is the difference between waterproof, washdown, and hygienic PCs?
Waterproof Panel PCs are fully sealed to block water and dust, making them ideal for wet environments. Washdown PCs go further. They are engineered to withstand high-pressure, high-temperature cleaning standards in the food and beverage processing industry.
Hygienic PCs prioritize sanitary design, featuring smooth stainless steel surfaces and sealed connectors to meet stringent hygiene standards in cleanrooms and pharmaceutical facilities.
For example, the PC8100AP Series combines all these advantages in one solution, delivering whole protection, uncompromising durability, and a hygienic design for industries where reliability and cleanliness are critical.
Can a computer be waterproof?
Waterproof PC computers are specifically built to withstand water. They come with higher protection standards (up to IP69K) and are engineered to keep water out. These industrial PCs are far more robust than water-resistant devices, designed to keep functioning and withstand heavy washdown environments by pressure washers.

Why should I choose M12 connectors?
M12 connectors are the standard for harsh environments due to their robust durability and compact design. These circular connectors feature a 12mm locking thread and are resistant to moisture, dust, and vibration, making them ideal for applications in automation, automotive, manufacturing, and process control. They provide secure screw-lock connections, can withstand shock and extreme temperatures, and offer various coding options for power, signal, and data transmission.
Key Advantages:
- Rugged & Durable: Built to withstand extreme industrial conditions, including vibration, shock, temperature swings, chemicals, and UV exposure, with high IP ratings (IP67, IP68, IP69K) for water/dust protection.
- Secure & Reliable Connection: A threaded screw-locking mechanism ensures a stable, vibration-resistant connection, preventing accidental disconnections and maintaining signal integrity.
- Compact Design: Small footprint allows for integration into tight spaces, crucial for sensors and machinery.
- Versatile Coding: Different codings (A, B, C, D, X) provide compatibility for various signals (power, data, control) and applications, including high-speed Ethernet (X-coded).
- Ease of Installation: Simple, plug-and-play design reduces setup and maintenance time and cost.
- Standardization: Meets international standards (like IEC), ensuring interoperability and interchangeability between different manufacturers’ products.
- High Performance: Reliable transmission of power, data, and signals with low contact resistance, suitable for IIoT and automation.
M12 connectors offer advantages like ruggedness (IP67/IP68/IP69K sealing for dust, water, washdowns), vibration resistance, compact size, and ease of installation with secure screw-locking. Their versatility, with different codings (A, B, C, D, X), allows for reliable signal, data (Ethernet), and power transmission, making them a standard for harsh industrial automation, robotics, and transportation due to their durability and standardized performance.

Can Maple Systems products connect to Ignition SCADA?
Yes! Are you using one of our HMIs or IPCs?
You can use our Windows or Linux based IPCs and Touch Panel PCs to run Ignition Edge locally.
You can also use our HMIs to communicate with Ignition via Modbus TCP, OPC UA, and MQTT, which makes a programmers life easier when building distributed edge gateways, dashboards, or data collection nodes within an Ignition-powered architecture.

Can your devices be used with Rockwell FactoryTalk View SCADA platform?
Absolutely! Maple Systems can provide you with another cost effective PanelView alternative using any of our rugged-Windows based IPCs or Touch Panel PCs.
Why would you want to use one of our products instead of Allen Bradley or Rockwell hardware?
- If you need a wider screen size range: We offer 7.0, 8.0, 10.1, 10.4, 12.1, 15.0, 15.6, 17.0, 18.5, 19.0, 21.5, 23.4, and 27.0″ options.
- If you need higher brightness for outdoor use: We offer Panel PCs with up to 1000nits.
- If you need IIP65/IP66/IP67/IP66-IP69K rated, or stainless enclosures: We offer a wide range of IP ratings, fully enclosed waterproof, front panel mounted waterproof, even UL Listed IPCs.
- If you want to avoid the high costs of a PanelView: We offer rugged, heavy duty Industrial PCs at a much lower cost. And, you don’t need to pay us any annual service fees when using our products.
- If you need to run additional apps alongside FactoryTalk like: SQL logging, MES clients, Web dashboards, VPN tools, Ignition Edge, etc. PanelView can’t do this.
If you want to save money, use more flexible hardware for more modern automation setups, we recommend giving us a try. You still have to purchase your software license from them, but we’ll deliver faster, your project will typically run faster, its easy to install, you get more peripheral support, full Windows remote access tools, and more advanced IIoT/Cloud Integration features.

What are PKEA and ePKEA Product Keys?
When installing or reinstalling the Microsoft® Windows® Operating System to a PC, it must be activated using a Product Key. For Maple Systems products, Product Keys come in one of two forms: PKEA and ePKEA.
PKEA (Product Key Entry Activation) are non-embedded Product Keys purchased by the end-user either individually, or alongside a PC. If purchased with a PC, it will be on a sticker attached to the unit. The end user must manually activate Windows® before use by entering the Product Key into the Activation page while connected to the internet. The Product Key can be re-used on the same PC if Windows® needs to be re-installed.
A PKEA unit will feature a badge that looks something like below:

NOTE: The PKEA label on some units may appear with a different color scheme depending on the release of Microsoft® Windows® it is for
ePKEA (Embedded Product Key Entry Activation) are embedded Product Keys that are only be purchased alongside a PC. The Product Key is embedded in the PC and activated by Maple Systems. If Windows® needs to be reinstalled on the PC, it must come back to Maple Systems for re-activation.
An ePKEA unit will feature a badge that looks something like below:
