Common PLC Configurator Questions

What does the Modules counter show?

The Modules counter displays how many I/O modules are present in the current PLC configuration compared with the maximum supported. For example, 0/11 means no modules are added yet, and up to eleven can be installed, ensuring the configuration stays within hardware limits.

What is Main Power?

Main Power shows the total amount of power used by all modules connected to the modular PLC CPU. It displays both how much power is currently being used and the maximum power available, so the system stays within safe limits.

What is Auxiliary Power?

Auxiliary Power shows how much extra power the modules in the current PLC configuration need when they don’t draw directly from the modular PLC CPU. If this value goes above zero, you may need to add a power supply to the configuration.

What does Required Power mean?

Required Power adds Main and Auxiliary Power to show the total power your PLC configuration needs. This helps to choose a power supply that meets or exceeds the system’s power requirements.

What are Digital Inputs (DI)?

Digital Inputs receive on/off signals from devices like switches and proximity sensors. The PLC uses these signals to tell if something is open or closed, or if voltage is high or low.

What are Digital Outputs (DO)?

Digital Outputs send on/off signals to devices like relays, lights, and alarms. These outputs let the PLC control equipment and respond to system conditions.

What are Relay Outputs?

Relay Outputs work like switches that the PLC can control electronically. They handle higher voltage loads such as motors, solenoids, and contactors, allowing the system to power heavy-duty equipment safely.

What are Analog Inputs (AI)?

Analog Inputs read changing signals like voltage or current from sensors that monitor temperature, pressure, or flow. These inputs let the PLC work with real-world data for more precise control.

What are Analog Outputs (AO)?

Analog Outputs send variable signals to devices like variable-frequency drives and proportional valves. These outputs let the PLC adjust speed, position, or other settings with precision.

What is a High-Speed Counter (HSC)?

A High-Speed Counter quickly counts pulses from encoders or sensors. It is used for tasks like tracking position or measuring rotational speed in a PLC configuration.

What is PWM (Pulse Width Modulation)?

Pulse Width Modulation varies the width of electrical pulses to regulate output power, commonly used for motor-speed control or LED dimming through the PLC.

What is RTD Input?

RTD Inputs connect to Resistance Temperature Detectors, delivering accurate, stable temperature readings for industrial PLC applications.

What is Thermocouple Input?

Thermocouple Inputs read temperature data from rugged thermocouple sensors, allowing the PLC to monitor extreme heat or cold conditions.
