External power switch on an OMI6800B series PC isn’t working
Specific OMI6800B series Industrial PCs provide a 2-pin header to wire an external power switch. Certain configurations will cause the external power switch to not initiate a proper shutdown.
If the external power switch on an OMI6800B series PC isn’t working properly, users should verify the following things:
- The correct type of switch/button must be used and installed properly
- The OMI6800B series of devices requires that this switch be a normally-open (NO), momentary-style pushbutton/switch.
- The switch/button must not stop or otherwise disconnect power from the PC. It can only bridge the 2 pins of the power switch connector on the OMI6800B series PC.
- Valid options must be selected under Power Options in Control Panel for PCs installed with Microsoft Windows as the operating system
- The menu can be configured within Windows Control Panel under Hardware and Sound > Power Options > System Settings > Choose what the power buttons do
- The When I press the power button option must be set to “Shut down”
- Even though a sleep button may not be present on the system, a valid option must be selected under When I press the sleep button. The option is suggested to be set to either “Sleep” or “Does nothing”

What are the benefits of Fanless Industrial PCs
Systems with fans that can warp or get damaged with constant vibration, fanless systems help to alleviate the risk of damage.
All of Maple Systems Touchscreen PCs as well as our industrial Box PCs are fanless.

With regards to Industrial Box PC, AMD or Intel? They are both Hexa-core, what’s the difference?
AMD processors typically have a lower power consumption, more cores, more threads, greater flexibility, and better software optimization. AMD processors are generally lower cost than Intel, quick and responsive storage drives and more cache, which is great for gaming and other similar high-performance activities.
Intel processors are well known for their superior performance, particularly in single threaded tasks. They also tend to be a bit more efficient, making Intel the better choice for content creation and productivity, with more connectivity options.
Conclusion: They’re both great!
How long is the life cycle of embedded computers?
Embedded systems can have long life cycles, typically designed for 5-10 years, depending on their environment. Maple Systems offers a 2 year warranty on all our IPCs.
Are your Embedded Industrial PCs compliant with industrial certifications?
What is Grade 304 Stainless Steel?
Grade 304 stainless steel is generally regarded as the most common austenitic stainless steel. It contains high nickel content that is typically between 8 and 10.5 percent by weight and a high amount of chromium at approximately 18 to 20 percent by weight. Other major alloying elements include manganese, silicon, and carbon. The remainder of the chemical composition is primarily iron.
The high amounts of chromium and nickel give 304 stainless steel excellent corrosion resistance. Common applications of 304 stainless steel include:
- Appliances like refrigerators and dishwashers
- Commercial food processing equipment
- Fasteners
- Piping
- Heat exchangers
- Structures in environments that would corrode standard carbon steel
See our Stainless Steel industrial PC options. Each are fully configurable, offer optional Wi-Fi, and come with a capacitive touchscreen.
