Specific OMI6800B series Industrial PCs provide a 2-pin header to wire an external power switch. Certain configurations will cause the external power switch to not initiate a proper shutdown.

If the external power switch on an OMI6800B series PC isn’t working properly, users should verify the following things:

  • The correct type of switch/button must be used and installed properly
    • The OMI6800B series of devices requires that this switch be a normally-open (NO), momentary-style pushbutton/switch.
    • The switch/button must not stop or otherwise disconnect power from the PC. It can only bridge the 2 pins of the power switch connector on the OMI6800B series PC.
  • Valid options must be selected under Power Options in Control Panel for PCs installed with Microsoft Windows as the operating system
    • The menu can be configured within Windows Control Panel under Hardware and Sound > Power Options > System Settings > Choose what the power buttons do
    • The When I press the power button option must be set to “Shut down”
    • Even though a sleep button may not be present on the system, a valid option must be selected under When I press the sleep button. The option is suggested to be set to either “Sleep” or “Does nothing”
