What is PROFINET?

PROFINET (Process Field Network) is an industrial Ethernet-based communication protocol used for automation and control systems. PORFINET is designed to enable real-time communication between industrial equipment in manufacturing environments and uses the TCP/IP stack for communication between devices.

PROFINET supports different communication speeds, including Real-Time, and Isochronous Real-Time to ensure time-sensitive data exchange.

For example: a PLC communicates to a robotic arm to control its movements. The real-time capabilities of PROFINET ensures the robotic arm operates with precise timing and synchronization with the production line.
