Glossary of Terms

Here’s the definition for most of the terms and acronyms associated with IIoT.

Term Acronym Definition
EasyAccess 2.0 A software application that allows you to monitor/control an HMI or PLC from a remote computer as well as upload/download new projects to the HMI and PLC.
Virtual Private Network VPN A private network used to securely transmit encrypted data to a remote computer over the Internet.
Domain Management System DMS A web-based administrator database that you create to manage user access to your EasyAccess 2.0 activated HMIs.
Secure Sockets Layer SSL The standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.
Virtual Network Computing VNC A graphical desktop sharing system using Remote Frame Buffer (RFB) protocol for screen sharing and remote monitoring/control. VNC enables instant and easy monitoring.
VNC Viewer A simple software application that allows one computer to connect to another, then view and operate the remote computer.
HMI Viewer A software application included with EasyAccess 2.0 that allows the monitoring, access, and control of an an HMI from a remote location, without affecting what is displayed on the screen of the remote HMI.
cMT Viewer A software application included with EasyAccess 2.0 that enables you to quickly and easily monitor the operational status of a single machine, or up to three machines simultaneously.
Proxy Option A feature that allows you to set up a separate computer to act as a proxy server, without having to provide an IP address. This security feature conceals and protects the identity of the remote PC.
EZwarePlus The Maple Systems HMI Configuration Software that is used to configure most Maple Systems HMIs and RMIs (except special legacy offer models).
Utility Manager A software application included with EZwarePlus that includes a pass-through application used by EasyAccess 2.0 to remotely upload/download new projects to a PLC connected to an HMI.
